On October 13-14, the George Mason University is holding its virtual 2021 Annual Fall Conference on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property’ (online). Topics covered include the economics of AI and IP, tech policy in AI, and trade mark law in AI. Registration is available here.

On October 14, the Fundación de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (FIDE) is organising the 16th Global Digital Encounter, ‘Protecting Domain Names in A Worldwide Context’ (online). Registration is on-going here. The event will discuss the value of domain names as IP assets, with speakers from Spain, Canada, and the UK.

On November 8-10, the 39th Annual Congress of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP) will take place on ‘The Exploitation of Intellectual Property Rights: In Search of the Right Balance’ (online). On November 15-16, the Licensing Executives Society (Britain & Ireland) will hold the 2021 Annual Conference (in-person in Glasgow). Presentations will cover issues such as collective licensing after the Digital Single Market Directive 2019/790, and the research and development partnerships behind the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAD initiative).

On November 16, the Cohausz & Florack law firm will conduct an online webinar on ‘Unified Patent Court & Unitary Patent’. The event will cover the basics of the new system, which is apparently will be launched soon, as reported by our GuestKat Frantzeska here.

On December 6-10, InformaConnect will be organising the IP Law Winter School (on-site, Cambridge). The course will include f transactional IP, choice between conflicting jurisdictions for IP litigation, and topics related to standard-essential patents. Harry Rich has been appointed as the new UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) Chair, along with two new non-executive directors, Harriet Kelsall and Hilary Newiss. All three took up their roles from 1 October 2021, for a period of three years. The UK IPO has also published its annual report, which details how the work of the IPO has supported innovation and economic growth during 2020-2021.
