FTC Reverts to Penalty Letters, Threatening 670 Companies with Penalties for Unsubstantiated Health Claims and Maybe More

In a continuation of these pot-stirring practices, the FTC has now notified 670 companies that they may be subject to some serious civil penalties if they make deceptive health or disease claims for any products. It is a somewhat unusual authority, but it is in the FTC’s statute and it has been used previously albeit infrequently.
