1: Roddy Ricch Sued For Copyright Infringement Over Monster Hit ‘The Box’

First off today, Nancy Dillon at Rolling Stone reports that rapper Roddy Ricch has been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit over his hit song The Box.

The lawsuit was filed by songwriter Greg Perry, who alleges that The Box infringes his 1975 song Come on Down. Specifically, he cites similarities in the beat, lyrics, hook, rhythmic structure and more. He adds that the song is well known in the rap industry, having been licensed by Def Jam in 2008 and by Epic Records in 2016.

In addition to Ricch, the lawsuit targets Atlantic records and other co-defendants involved in the release of The Box. Neither party had any comment on the lawsuit.

2: Netflix and Disney Expand Australia’s Piracy Blocklist With Dozens of Domains

Next up today, Ernesto Van der Sar at Torrentfreak writes that an Australian federal court has issued a new site blocking injunction that targets some 52 pirate websites and 92 domain names.

The injunction was obtained by a group of large rightsholders and appears to primarily target the site Mixdrop. Mixdrop is a well-known cyberlocker site that allows users to upload media content for streaming or download by others.

The group of rightsholders, which includes Netflix, Disney and Village Roadshow, operated under the umbrella group Creative Content Australia. The move comes just a week after they received a similar injunction against Mixdrop and other sites that are popular for pirated content. The sites involved were provided an opportunity to contest the block, but none did so.

3: United Media Joins Anti-Piracy Body

Finally today, Chris Dziadul at BroadbandTV News reports that United Media has become the newest member of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), an international trade group that works to combat piracy globally.

United Media is a large content provider in southeast Europe, operating over 50 channels that are broadcast in the region. In recent years, they’ve noticed an uptick in illegal streaming and are hoping that joining ACE, they can secure international cooperation in shutting pirate sites.

This brings the total number of ACE members to 43 and that list includes media and technology companies including Disney, Amazon, Paramount, Sony Pictures and many more.
