AI Bots and IP Rights? They’re the focus of the 2024 IP Awareness Summit in Chicago

Creative expression, like music, films and books, and inventions, that are supported copyrights and patents, impact thousands of businesses, millions of jobs and and our prospects for the future..

Generative artificial intelligence, like ChatGPT or Google’s Bard, provide an opportunity to move generative search farther, faster. But at what cost?

To address this and other mysteries the Center for for Intellectual Property Understanding (CIPU) is holding the 2024 IP Awareness Summit in conjunction with the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University near Chicago. The 2024 theme is “AI + IP = ?”.

“Generative AI is shedding a spotlight on creative expression and copyrights, as well as on the relationship of invention to patents,” said Bruce Berman, Chairman and Co-Founder of CIPU. “AI’s rapid emergence is fraught with possibility and danger. It needs our full attention.”

Five panels and more than 20 speakers from the U.S. and Europe with will be presenting as panelists and speakers. Time will be allotted for two discussion breakouts led by panelists. Lunch will be served and a cocktail reception will follow the event.

Panels include:

  • AI in inventing and creative expression – Productivity tool or Oppenheimer moment
  • IP rights and AI – Learning to live together
  • Basic IP Principles: What are they? Who needs to know them?
  • Fostering diversity and entrepreneurship: The emerging role of AI and IP
