Director Iancu to be Honored

IPWatchdog LIVE, IPWatchdog’s preeminent event, will honor former USPTO Director Andrei Iancu with the Judge Paul Michel Award for 2022. Director Iancu, who served in the Trump administration from 2017 to 2021, is best known for instilling a new vigor into the USPTO and fighting for the rights of SMEs and inventors.

The Paul Michel Award, named after Chief Judge Paul Michel (CAFC, ret.), is presented annually to a person within the IP community “who has selflessly served the best interests of the industry and its members as a respected leader, mentor, and advocate on behalf of fairness and for the best interests of the intellectual property system.”

Since leaving government, Iancu has worked to continue to raise the importance of intellectual property issues. Few were as publicly vocal over just how bad an idea the TRIPS IP waiver would be for COVID-19 vaccines. Iancu co-founded the Renewing American Innovation Project at the bipartisan Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). CSIS is known inside the the DC beltway for expertise on national security.

Kick-Off on Sunday

LIVE 2022 will kick off on Sunday, September 11, at 2:30 PM central time with a panel “Litigating in Texas: A Judge’s Perspective,” comprised of five judges, Judge Alan D. Albright – Judge on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas; Judge Sean D. Jordan – Judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas; Judge Ryan T. Holte – Judge on the United States Court of Federal Claims; Judge David Folsom – Former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas; Judge Randal Rader – Former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
