The Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police intervened several commercial premises to carry out forfeiture proceedings for the crime of copyright infringement, as several commercial premises were allegedly buying and selling duplicate books or illegal copies of them.
However, the traders consider that these measures are ” excessive” as the occupation of their premises is causing the loss of jobs and also of labor that has been in business for more than 30 years, or even family heirlooms. They also stated that although they fully support the protection of copyrights and legality, many establishments that do not practice the activity pursued by the authorities are being affected.
In response to the concern expressed by those who make their living from the purchase and sale of used books, the police, by means of a statement, assured that the sealed premises were being used for the storage and subsequent distribution of pirated books.
