The consumer protection authority issued External Circular No. 009 which will come into force in March 2023 and its purpose is to provide instructions on the minimum information that must be provided to consumers about the telecommunication networks that support mobile devices.
The new circular indicates the compatibility with the telecommunication services network to which the device can be connected (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, etc.); the type and version of the device’s operating system; its memory and storage capacity; among other characteristics must be disclosed. In addition, a striking instruction is imposed on the unions to “ensure” that the affiliates that commercialize these products comply with the order.
It is worth noting that so far 5G technology is not available in Colombia.
