Medication shortages

17 March, 2023
The National Inspector General’s Office, along with sectoral actors such as Asocoldro and Acemi, have warned of a potential increase in morbidity and mortality in the country due to a shortage of medicines that was previously alerted by the EPSs. In response to the ongoing crisis, the Attorney General’s Office has requested disciplinary measures against Minsalud and Invima, as no viable solution has been presented and all possible preventive actions have been exhausted.

It is crucial to note that this is a pressing issue affecting all patients in the country, particularly those with chronic illnesses like hypertension, diabetes, cancer, orphan diseases, epilepsy, mental disorders, anticoagulants, and HIV, and the lack of antibiotics and contraceptives. The failure to address this issue could have severe consequences, highlighting the need for immediate action and a comprehensive solution to ensure patients’ access to critical medications.
