Founded in 1978, the Society for Scholarly Publishing’s (SSP) mission is to support all organizations and individuals to advance scholarly publishing. To continue to foster an inclusive and robust profession, SSP founded the Generations Fund to provide long-term resources to two critical program areas: leadership-workforce development and diversity, equity and inclusion. As today is Giving Tuesday, a “global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world,” read about CCC’s support of SSP’s Generations Fund.

CCC has been an active member of SSP for decades. CCC team members have served on various SSP committees and on the Board of Directors, including Past President Sue Kesner, past Board Member Rebecca McLeod, and current Treasurer Emilie Delquié. The missions of our organizations remain closely aligned and support the work of the committees to strengthen the scholarly communications community. The Scholarly Kitchen provides vital daily content and analysis, and we find excellent value in the resources provided by SSP.

In addition to the quality of the content produced by SSP, it is an important community where our team can engage with leaders in scholarly publishing. We welcome the ability to contribute to industry initiatives and engage in meaningful dialogue with stakeholders as we work together to create innovative solutions to industry challenges.

CCC is an agile and dynamic organization made stronger by our increasingly diverse community. Our team is encouraged and supported to contribute thoughts and ideas and is committed to a more diverse, inclusive, equitable, vibrant ecosystem that mentors and cultivates opportunity for everyone. We recognize high performance and innovative thinking in how we can continue to be more inclusive, foster change in the industry, access and serve underserved markets, and contribute to the common good in a way that makes a difference in the world.

CCC is committed to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace and recognizes the need for open dialogue, respectful listening, and effective action. CCC believes that a thriving scholarly communications community depends on expert, impartial, dynamic, and inclusive global workplaces. This is the result of deliberate efforts to bring diverse voices to the decision-making process. SSP’s Generations Fund aligns with our values.

We think it is important to have diverse voices and new perspectives and to institutionalize this type of inclusivity across the practices in our industry, and to identify rising stars and provide a path giving all an opportunity to succeed. We believe a community is only as strong as its next generation of leaders.

Investment in programs such as the Generations Fund is essential to helping young professionals find meaning and feel valued in their work as scholarly publishing leaders. It is a wonderful way for those employed by organizations with limited resources to find a pathway to learning and career growth. An investment in the Generations Fund is an investment in the future of the global scholarly publishing community.
