For the first time data about what the IP community believes are the basic principles of IP is being collected by the Center for Intellectual Property Understanding, an independent non-profit established in 2016.
CIPU needs the help of the IP community, including IP CloseUp readers, and it will take only ten minutes of your time. Findings will be published here and in other media in the coming weeks.
Respondents will include IP owners, investors, engineers, lawyers, lawmakers, educators, entrepreneurs and creators, including inventors and content creators.
Data collection will take place through a survey querying IP community members about what they believe are IP essentials, basic principles and behavior that everyone needs to know to, and how to best convey them.

CIPU helps audiences understand the role inventions and creative expression play in supporting innovation, commerce and society. It is conducting this research project to learn how IP rights are regarded and help assure the IP community is serving its audiences.
Independent Data Collection
CIPU has retained an independent research firm, Response:AI, to conduct this survey. All responses are anonymous and will only be analyzed as part of the broader sample of survey respondents. CIPU will publish the findings of the survey later this month.
The survey is anonymous and takes less than ten minutes to complete. No information will be shared.
