Spain’s first copyright office will start operating in 2023. All copyright issues had been dealt with before by the IP Subdirectorate of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The creation of this entity took place within the Spanish Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
According to UNISON Rights, Spain has been experiencing problems in copyright approach and management, as a result of new technologies such as NFTs and AI, which have increased the number of works created in a short period of time. Therefore, great expectations exist regarding the positive impact of this office, which seeks better collective management of copyright and related rights, by having certain responsibilities such as granting authorizations for the incorporation of collective management organizations, issuing precautionary measures and warnings, solving disputes, and even supervising IP operators.
