The Herbert Smith Freehills Alumni Network is a thriving global community and recently, a group now based in the Cayman Islands, hosted their own reunion.

The HSF Alumni network in the Cayman Islands met for drinks on Wednesday 6th September at Vine & Tap in George Town. The on island network has grown to over 35 people, with representation from alumni who have between them spent time in the London, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and various Australian offices.

The increasing representation of HSF alumni in the offshore world is reflective of the quality of lawyer that the jurisdiction needs. Cayman’s world class financial services industry benefits from the influx, and alumni are scattered across most of the more prominent offshore firms, with attendees on this occasion from contentious and transactional teams at Maples, Walkers, Ogier, Harneys, Mourant, and Travers Thorp Alberga. There are alumni at a number of other firms who were unable to attend on this occasion.

Bhavesh Patel, a litigation partner at Travers Thorp Alberga (who organized and sponsored the drinks) commented as follows:

Cayman’s financial services and legal industry deal with complex and high value transactions on a daily basis. Well educated lawyers who have benefited from training in top tier global firms will always be highly sought after and it is no surprise to see the growth of the HSF Alumni network on Island as a result. In my 7 years on Island it has trebled in size and it is a great testament to the quality of work on island. The network gives members another avenue through which to meet other expats with a similar background and who share the communal experience of having spent time at HSF, whether in Exchange House or elsewhere. The values of the firm are instilled in each of us, and it is great to be able to catch up and reminisce about our time in the different HSF offices.”

If any HSF alumni or current staff are ever passing through the Cayman Islands then they can contact Bhavesh Patel at [email protected].
