IAM names Asia IP Elite organisations for 2022

IAM today published its latest list of Asia’s IP Elite – the organisations across the region that place IP at the heart of their business strategies. Our Special Report for Q2 of 2022, available on the IAM platform for subscribers now, contains details on how all 80 of the selected entities have adapted their IP strategies in the covid-19 era, and also includes interviews and profiles with some of the standout names from among the group.

This marks the 10th year that IAM has set out to identify the Asia-Pacific’s best exemplars of IP value creation, an effort that has been conducted out of our office in Hong Kong. During this round of research, we found that these companies have been as active as ever, even amidst the disruptions of the past two years. Indeed, it is worth remembering that although much of the world has opened up as the pandemic begins to abate, major economies in the region remain closed off to business travel, marking big changes to how these international companies conduct IP business and make deals.

The 80 members of the Asia IP Elite come from 10 different economies across the Asia-Pacific, all of which are at different stages of IP development. The IAM team considers each firm within the context of its location and its industry, seeking to highlight only those that are truly ahead of the curve. For some markets, that might mean having a dedicated IP team and strategy, but for most it involves IP assets making a measurable contribution to the overall business.

Although primarily designed to recognise deserving in-house IP teams, the process of researching and reporting on these companies has been a great asset to IAM’s Asia-based editorial team throughout the past decade, alerting us to storylines and strategies of which we might otherwise have been unaware. We have also learned from our international readership that the exercise provides a useful roadmap to a dynamic region, highlighting organisations that are doing interesting things but that may not be household names in the West.

Most of all, however, we hope the process has been valuable to the Asia IP Elite organisations themselves and the IP professionals who guide their strategies – whether by helping them identify peers and partners, facilitating in-person knowledge sharing at our events or providing validation to their own senior management that they are seen by the market as among the best at what they do.

IAM has announced the return of IPBC Asia as a fully live event to be held at The Westin Tokyo from 31 October to 2 November 2022. We hope that our team will be able to welcome new and old contacts from the Asia IP Elite there for a long-overdue reunion.
