Patent law has about a year’s head start on this issue, but the decisions have not been pro-AI. In 2022, the Federal Circuit ruled that computer programs cannot qualify as inventors under the US Patent Act. It stands to reason that if a computer program cannot invent, it also cannot create a work of authorship.
